A natural outgrowth and expansion for the continuation of the highly successful Dr. Betty Shabaaz Delta Academy: Catching the Dreams of Tomorrow, Delta Gems was created to catch the dreams of African American at-risk, adolescent girls aged 14-18. Delta GEMS provides the frame work to actualize those dreams through the performance of specific tasks that develop a CAN DO attitude and offers a road map for college and career planning conducts. The program activities offers opportunities for self-reflection and individual growth. Delta GEMS, like Delta Academy, is implemented by local chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

and community service opportunities
3. Provide tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success

The program curriculum is designed to give young women the chance to engage in interactive learning with adult volunteers, parents/guardians and other family members who are interested in their success. The goals of the GEMS Institute are achieved through monthly workshops and meetings, field trips, community service projects and bonding activities with the members of the Contra Costa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
